Then we were off to Kol Shofar, one of the three shofar factories in Israel. Each Shofar is handmade by Keynan Shimon. We learned that the best horn to use for a shofar is from an ail (ram). We learned that the difference between the Tamani shofar and the Sephardi/Ashkenaz kind is the curve on bottom. The Sephardim and Ashkenazim straighten out the mouth piece and the Tamanim leave it curved. We saw the end of a shofar being hollowed out to create the mouth blowing piece. After we learned all about the shofar creation process, the different types, shapes and forms we put on our own concert and gave shofar blowing a try. Not bad for first timers.
Check out the Shofar Menorah
We stopped at Tzomet Katzbia for lunch. Tzomet Katzbia is a place that was defended during the Yom Kippur war. Now it's a memorial for past Israeli wars. We got a chance to climb on the differnt tanks from different battles Israel has fought.
