Shabbos Lech Lecha

All ready for Shabbos.

Our second Shabbos on the kibbutz was just as beautiful as our first. On friday night we ate at Dvora and Steve's house. Before the meal, Dr. Beral taught us a little about the Parsha. We went outside just like Hashem told Avraham, and looked up at the stars. We tried to count the stars, but there were to many to count. Hashem promised Avraham that his children will be many just like the stars. After shul on Shabbos morning, we ate lunch in the dining room. For seudat shlishis we were invited to join Kenny and his family.

On Motzei Shabbos we camouflaged our faces, put on dark clothes, and went out into the night as soldiers on a mission. Yoni from the kibbutz, our commanding officer, helped us prepare for our night exercise.

The entire force ready to "rock and roll".

Here we are sitting and getting our orders. We learned the Pazatstah, a maneuver were you drop to the ground and crawl till the coast is clear. We were all given misparay barzel (iron numbers), numbers that don't change, just like soldiers in the army. While out in "combat" we learned the catwalk, a quiet way to walk so as not to be detected.

Kenny pointed out the North Star, and discussed the different directions of the compass rose . At the end of a long treck we finally made it home safely.

Upon completion of "the mission", all the 'starving', hard working soldiers enjoyed borekas and ice cream.
